FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many sessions will I need?

All sessions except for smoking, which is a one off session lasting up to 2 hours, will begin with an initial consultation for which no charge is made. During the initial consultation we will be able to give you an indication of roughly how many sessions you may require. As a general guide, most problems will take between 3 - 5 sessions for positive changes to be made. Clients suffering from depression or anxiety related problems might expect their problems to resolve after approximately 8 - 12 sessions. This is however just a guide, it will really depend on the individual.

What happens during the initial consultation?

The initial consultation is an opportunity for client and hypnotherapist to meet before treatment commences, for the client to receive advice and information about the treatment and for both parties to ensure they feel comfortable working together. During the consultation we can agree what goals need to be worked towards and put together a plan of action to achieve them. Generally no hypnosis will take place during the initial consultation, this normally begins in the next session. There is no charge made for the initial consultation and it is completely without obligation.

What is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

CBT is a form of talking therapy with a strong emphasis on problem solving and practicality. It is one of the most effective therapies for emotional, behavioural and psychological problems. It works on the principle that unhealthy emotion and behaviour have underlying, unhelpful thought patterns or beliefs. CBT helps a client to unravel, identify and change these unhelpful thought patterns to enjoy freedom from negative emotional states and experience greater confidence.

What is SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy)

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is, like the name suggests, about being brief and about focusing on solutions rather than problems. There are always exceptions to the rule with problems, or times when the problem is not happening or it is less severe. By looking for these exceptions and analysing why clients are successful at these times, we are able to bring them in to the forefront, getting the client to repeat these successes and use them to create the basis for ongoing change.
